I moved to Wisconsin from California in early 2023 and happily settled beside the Fox River in Appleton. Immediately struck with the abrupt, dramatic weather changes, the cool, fragrant air and the abundance of deciduous, hardwood trees, I was captured. The long, solitary walks I always take with my two beloved dogs along the river flanked by forest form the basis of this series. The lush colors, textures, patterns seeped into my work like fresh blood. And so, my newest series launched.
Rather than re-creating the landscape on a canvas, I aim to express its essence, creating on the physical surface an emotional and sensuous response to this new environment. Working in series allows me to vary and to carry over visual motifs from one painting to another. The result is an overlap of elements that enriches each piece and deepens the cohesion within the series while doing justice to the variety of imagery encountered along the trail.
